Scrytics: from a Magic card to a collection and deck

I built Scrytics to connect the different things you do with a Magic: The Gathering collection: identify a card, record the copy you own, check its available prices, and put it in a deck. I want those steps to feel like parts of the same task.

Scrytics first launched on the App Store on May 12, 2026. I refreshed the screenshots in October 2026 and added a changelog of the work I completed that month below.

Magic makes the details matter. A familiar card name can lead to several printings, different artwork, and different finishes. The collection needs to describe the actual copy in your binder.

Start with the card in front of you

The scanner uses the iPhone camera to recognize a card. A scan session keeps results together so you can review the printing before adding cards to a collection. That review step gives you a chance to check the result while the physical card is still in your hand.

Keep the collection useful

Scrytics lets you organize copies in binders, track their condition and finish, and see available market prices. Separate collections can give a trade binder and a deck project their own place. Price history adds context when you open a card; the amounts in these screenshots show the captured examples, rather than current offers.

Build around a format

The deck builder supports Magic formats including Standard, Modern, and Commander. Format legality, mana curve, and Commander color identity help you review a list as it takes shape. You can also bring in a decklist from tools such as Moxfield, Arena, or Magic Online.

For me, this is where scanning becomes useful beyond cataloging. The cards you have recorded can inform the next deck you want to build.

Visit Scrytics to see the app and try it with your own Magic cards.

What I built in October 2026

Code changes completed in October. Published entries are already live.

  1. Implemented

Built automatic scanner training and validated scanner-data downloads that fall back to the last working version if an update fails.
